June Butler MBE elected as the next All Ireland President of Mothers’ Union

Congratulations to Mrs June Butler MBE, who has been elected as the next All Ireland President of Mothers’ Union.

The announcement was made at a meeting of All Ireland Trustees in Dublin yesterday (19 May 2018) and June will assume the role from January 2019 for a three year term.

Speaking of her election June said:

“Mothers’ Union is a member–led organisation and I feel both humbled and privileged to have been elected by members throughout Ireland as their next President.  For the three years beginning in January 2019 I will try my best, with God’s guidance and with support from all my talented colleagues, to lead Mothers’ Union in Ireland in a way that will encourage all our members to make a difference in their parishes and in their communities, as well as supporting projects worldwide. As ever, we will focus on the MU aims and objectives which are essentially to support family life in every context.”

June, who is a parishioner of Saintfield Parish, has been the MU Down and Dromore Diocesan President since January 2016. She is a member of both Down and Dromore Diocesan Council and General Synod. June will also be known to many as the former Diocesan Secretary of Down and Dromore and Connor. Prior to that she was the Assistant Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland.

The Bishop of Down and Dromore, the Rt Revd Harold Miller said:

“I send my warmest congratulations and best wishes to June who will bring her considerable people skills, talents and energy to the role of All–Ireland President. June is a passionate advocate for MU and I pray that she will know God’s clear guidance and strength as she leads the organisation in Ireland.”
