Revd Myrtle Morrison looks back at her deacon year

This past year as a deacon intern has been extremely busy as I have juggled work, study, assignments and family life. I was delighted to serve my intern deacon year in St. Saviours Craigavon and I am deeply grateful to the parishioners for all their support and prayers.

I am very grateful to all those who took on extra responsibilities, especially over Saturday and Sunday so that I could attend CITI for nine weekends. Special mention should be made of Canon Raj who provided emergency pastoral cover at Craigavon Area Hospital. I am also very grateful to Canon Jim Harron and Laura Barnett, Lay Reader, and our Parish Readers who worked together to lead worship services during the year.

I appreciated the biblical studies we did in CITI and especially the module on the Pentateuch and the Psalms. The psalms contain a wealth of material that is useful in pastoral situations. The module on interpretative issues in the gospels was very helpful.

The monthly meetings with the Bishop as we studied Elijah and discussed contemporary issues affecting ministry today were enriching.

During the year I enjoyed making new friends and the fellowship, laughter, mutual support and encouragement was enriching.

I am grateful to God and the Bishop for the opportunity to continue to serve God in Craigavon during my curacy. As a congregation we are looking forward to seeing what the next chapter brings in the life of St. Saviour’s. I look forward to continuing to serve God as chaplain in Craigavon Area Hospital and ministering to patients, staff and relatives there.

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:  the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:21–23.
