The Church on the Hill opens a new extension

The Church on the Hill, Maghaberry, has just completed a project to extend the front of their building and create a spacious foyer/welcome area and extra meeting rooms.

Begun in July 2018, the building work was finished over the new year and on Sunday morning 20 January the church welcomed friends and special guests to an opening and dedication service.

The extension was officially opened by Revd Harold Agnew (Portadown District Superintendent of Methodist Church) and Bishop Harold Miller (pictured above). Also in attendance were local clergy, the Mayor Councillor Uel Mackin and representatives of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, the builder Gerald Henderson and architect Chris Stevenson.

“What a wonderful morning of celebration it was!” said Revd Clare Kakuru, Minister in Charge.

“The extension not only gives us much needed space for our growing youth organisations but it also opens up new opportunities for outreach into a growing village. The glass frontage creates a welcoming and attractive first impression and hopefully makes the decision to take that first step inside a church building a little bit less scary!

“It has been wonderful to see this new extension in use over recent days and it is my prayer that over the next few months this new space will increasingly be used to reach out to and serve the community here in Maghaberry.”
