A brief update from South Sudan

South Sudan seceded from Sudan in 2011 but plunged into conflict in December 2013 following a power struggle between President Salva Kiir and Vice President Riek Machar.

In August 2018 a Peace Agreement was signed and the implementation period was to begin in March. It seems that the implementation has indeed started and that Mr Kirr and Mr Machar are working along the terms of the agreement. However, there is some concern that others who were not signatories on the agreement are a risk to its success.

Please do not stop praying for peace in South Sudan and for our link diocese of Maridi.

The Peace and Reconciliation Conference in Yei Diocese last October inspired other Dioceses to engage with new projects. Bishop Moses’ youth team in Maridi organised a Peace and Reconciliation Conference for young people from each Archdeaconry. They worshiped and studied the Bible together and discussed their role in building peace.

We’re hopeful that Bishop Moses will visit Down and Dromore in September. More details to follow.
