‘Building to Grow’ continues to grow!

Building to Grow has had an exciting first year following its launch in February 2018. Over 30 people signed up for the monthly course which seeks to equip and train leaders in both the theory and practice of Biblical youth ministry.

“We’re thrilled that 24 of the students are due to receive their BTG certificate in June 2019 and we’re expecting a new intake in September,” said facilitator, Colin Morris. “The feedback has been very positive, and our students have really enjoyed the sessions and the monthly training days with guest speakers.”

The sessions were a mix of biblical studies, practical exercises and time to reflect with others on what their different ministries looked like. Speakers at the training days included Ken Moser (Professor of Youth Ministry at Briercrest College, Canada); Mel Lacy (Executive Director Growing Young Disciples) who spoke about ministering to ‘Generation Z’ and Rory Bell (Director TnT Ministries) who looked at ‘REAL’ children’s ministry.

Although this is not a diocesan course, the facilitators, Johnny Beare, Colin Morris and David Armstrong all worship in Down and Dromore parishes. Participants have come from a number of other dioceses and denominations.

The course, training days and advice facilitated by the BTG team have been challenging, encouraging and valuable:

“A wonderfully helpful course for developing your confidence in teaching God’s Word faithfully and clearly to your young people.” Thomas Dowling (current course participant and a youth leader in St Elizabeth’s Church, Dundonald)

“Now more than ever in youth ministry, leaders and volunteers alike need to be disciples making disciples, teaching God’s Word faithfully to young people in relevant and accessible ways….A organisation such as this one will equip youth leaders and volunteers to “train a child up in the way he should go”.”  Simon Henry, National Youth Officer (Church of Ireland Youth Dept)

The next course is 10 months long and will finish in June 2020. Visit the website www.buildingtogrow.com to sign up or for more information email email buildingtogrow@gmail.com.
