What is a synod?

In the Anglican Communion, the model of government is the ‘Bishop in Synod’, meaning that a diocese is governed by a bishop acting with the advice and consent of representatives of the clergy and laity of the diocese. In the Church of Ireland, the body by which this representation is achieved is called the diocesan synod. One third of synod members are clergy and the remaining two–thirds are laity drawn from every parish.

Pray
  • We pray for Bishop David in his leadership of the diocese and as he delivers his Presidential address to Synod.

  • For the presence of the Holy Spirit in all the proceedings and that Synod members, clerical and lay, would be guided into wise decisions.

  • We pray for the mission and unity of the diocese, that we would go forward together with purpose, confidence, and courage.
