Diocese of Santiago, Chile
At Down and Dromore Diocesan Synod in June 2023, synod voted unanimously to recognise a link partnership with Santiago Diocese, Chile, led by Bishop Hector
‘Tito’ Zavala.
Background
In November 2018, the Anglican Church of Chile was established as the 40th Province of the Anglican communion in the world. Since then, it has been made up of four dioceses, which bring together the different Anglican congregations in the national territory.
Diocese of Santiago
Bishop Tito has two suffragan bishops – Rt Revd Nelson Ojeda and Rt Revd Alf Cooper.
There are currently 19 churches in the diocese which in recent years has seen significant growth. Church planting has been high on the agenda and there is a major ministry among the student population of the city of Santiago which Bishop Nelson currently oversees.
Evangelism and church planting are among Bishop Tito’s priorities for the diocese and he also identifies a number of challenges facing the church similar to those facing the Church in Ireland.
