Bangor Man Made Canon of Wau Cathedral

Kenneth Hearn, who for the past couple of years has been serving as UK Commissary for Wau Diocese, recently attended the Second Synod of Wau Diocese in Wanyjok (South of the Southern Darfur Border in N W South Sudan). Since his return to Bangor Kenneth has learned that he has been made a Lay Canon of Wau Cathedral. This honour has been given to Kenneth in recognition of his special relationship with the diocese who wanted to express their gratitude for his fellowship over the past number of years.

Around 80-100 attended the Synod which lasted for 9 days. The delegates slept under trees, while Kenneth was a privileged guest and was afforded the luxury of a hut, the roof of which was being eaten by the local termite population. Many of the 100 Dinka Ministers attending the Synod travelled long distances on foot, and one was so keen to be there that he took him 5 days cycling to reach his destination !

One of the greatest needs in the diocese is bicycles for clergy and workers. These bicycles cost £85 and are specially designed to cope with the terrain but the cost is way beyond the reach of these people who don’t even have the money to pay the clergy or workers.
