Reflecting on being a better parent

Parenthood is not always an easy journey but the majority of parents do the best they can to provide a loving environment for their children and teenagers. To help christian parents in this task a course to reflect on some of the issues facing them is starting on Tuesday 16 May at 7.30pm in Belvoir Parish Church.

Supported by Down & Dromore Youth Council; Mothers’ Union and The Church of Ireland Board for Social Responsibility, the course offers 3 stand alone sessions:

Session 1 – Knowing their world (16/5/06)

Dealing with present day culture our children and young people face. An opportunity to get behind some of the trends and influences shaping our families.

Session 2 – Fireguards and Stairgates (24/5/06)

Whilst a challenge, parents must face up to how we instil values and standards that set loving boundaries with our children and young people right through to adulthood.

Session 3 – It’s good to talk (1/6/06)

How do we as carers talk so our children and young people will listen, and yet listen so they feel happy to talk?

The facilitators, Dickie and Janice Barr, have been involved for many years in delivering workshops for parents and others with responsibility for young people. Their desire is to see parents and their children follow Christian principles.
