Bishop celebrates half a century

Bishop Edward Darling, the former Bishop of Limerick, who retired into the diocese of Down and Dromore, has recently notched up 50 years in the Ordained Ministry.  To mark the occasion he celebrated the Eucharist in the Church of St John the Evangelist, Belfast where he was rector from 1972-1985.  During his ministry Bishop Edward served curacies  in Down & Dromore in the parishes of Orangefield and Carnalea.

The address at the service was given by Bishop Samuel Poyntz, formerly Bishop of Connor.  Afterwards Bishop Edward and his wife, Patricia, entertained invited guests to refreshments in the church halls. For the past number of years Bishop Darling has acted as Chaplain to the Retired Clergy in the diocese of Down and Dromore.
