Next Bishop of Cashel and Ossory consecrated

The Very Revd Michael Burrows, Dean of Cork, was consecrated Bishop of Cashel and Ossory in a packed celebratory service in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin on Monday 3 July.

The Chief Consecrator was the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill, and the assisting Bishops were the Bishop of Meath, the Most Revd Richard Clarke, and the Bishop of Clogher, the Rt Revd Michael Jackson. The preacher was long time friend of the Burrows family, the Ven. Robin White, Archdeacon of Cork.

At the end of the service Dr Neill paid tribute to Michael Burrows as he welcomed him to his new ministry. He said, “Michael brings a wealth of pastoral, international and ecumenical experience, and is well known for both his clear and compelling preaching gifts as well as for his scholarship.” He said the new bishop would lead the diocese from strength to strength and encouraged the dioceses of Cashel and Ossory to welcome Michael and his family among them.

In response Bishop Michael said, “I look forward with both excitement and trepidation to the ministry which lies ahead of me. However the warm welcoming words from throughout Cashel and Ossory and the assurance of constant prayers have been most heartening.”

The See of Cashel and Ossory became vacant after the resignation of Bishop Peter Barrett in January 2006.
