New Ecumenical Chaplain appointed

The Bishop of Down & Dromore has announced that the Revd Roy Searle, leader in the Northumbria Community and last year's president of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, is to be an honorary ecumenical chaplain in Down Cathedral and Saul.

Roy is a great friend of Downpatrick and has been part of the St Patrick's Day Pilgrimage for many years.  He will be living in the town for the coming year, and has a great passion for telling the story of the roots of Christian faith in Ireland.

Bishop Harold Miller says: ‘it is a joy to appoint Roy Searle as an ecumenical chaplain.  This is a first, and a real sign of commitment to working together with other denominations in declaring our shared faith in Christ.  I know his ministry will be a blessing to all who share in it, and I pray that Roy's time among us would be both memorable and strategic - as we seek together to be true to the faith delivered through Patrick.'
