New Archdeacon of Down appointed

The Revd Canon Philip Patterson who is rector of Knockbreda Parish Church and also the Diocesan Registrar has agreed to be the next Archdeacon of Down. 

Commenting on his appointment, Philip said: "I am delighted to have been invited by the bishop to be his Archdeacon of Down.  This is an exciting time to be involved in ministry in the Diocese of Down and Dromore.  I look forward eagerly to the next stage of diocesan development and to playing my part in it.."

The new Archdeacon will take up his new appointment on Thursday 1st March.  The vacancy occurred following the retirement of Archdeacon Gregor McCamley.  Philip will remain rector of Knockbreda, although he will be relinquishing his position of Registrar. He has also stated that he will not be allowing his name to go forward in June for the election of Honorary Secretary.

A date for the Installation service in Down Cathedral has not yet been announced.
