Flight of the Earls sites feature in annual outing

CIMS Annual Outing on Saturday 9 June 2007

"The Flight of the Earls"

On 4th September 1607, the Earls of Tyrone and Tyrconnell, along with a close circle of family and associates, boarded a ship at Rathmullan on Lough Swilly, bound for Spain. This event has become known as ‘The Flight of the Earls' and is widely regarded as one of the most enigmatic events in Irish history. The Earls represented the cream of Gaelic Society.

Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the Flight of the Earls the Annumal Church of Ireland Men's Society outing this year will visit related sites in the Cookstown - Dungannon area. A coach will leave St Nicholas' Hall, Lisburn Road, Belfast with pick up points at Sprucefield, Portadown and Dungannon

In Cookstown there will be a coffee stop in Garden World. A service of Holy Communion will be held in Desertcreat Parish Church, at which the presiding minister will be the Very Revd Patrick Rooke, Dean of Armagh.  After a soup and sandwich lunch in Tullylagan Manor the afternoon will be spent visiting a number of locations in the Cookstown / Dungannon area associated with the "Flight of the Earls". To round the trip off an evening meal is booked at the Viscount Restaurant in Dungannon.
