Bishop and Moderator host climate change breakfast

The Bishop of Down & Dromore, the Rt Revd Harold Miller and the Presbyterian Moderator, the Rt Revd John Finlay, joined forces to host a special breakfast in Belfast, at which Sir John Houghton, a leading climate change scientist, was the keynote speaker

‘Two degrees... one chance' was the challenge laid down to the church leaders and politicians who attended the early morning event, organised by local Micah Challenge partners, Tearfund and Evangelical Alliance NI.  Micah Challenge is a global movement of Christian churches and Christian organisations united to call on world governments to work towards meeting the UN Millennium Development Goals.

As Stephen Cave, National Director of Evangelical Alliance NI explained: "Two degrees... one chance may be a stark message, but it is vital that our local politicians and church leaders engage seriously with this issue".

The breakfast was held during Tearfund's Global Poverty Prayer Week and Tim Magowan, National Manager of Tearfund Ireland, said: "All around the world poor people are already seeing changes in the weather consistent with climate change predictions and it is appropriate that we take practical steps here in Northern Ireland to help them."
