John & Rebekah exchange China for a Down & Dromore parish

The newly appointed rector of Bright, Ballee, Killough and Rathmullan, the Revd John Ewart, has worked for a number of years in the Far East. He and his wife, Rebekah, who is from Hong Kong,  recently returned from China where they were teaching in a secondary school and will soon be settling into the Co Down parish when John is instituted at Killough on 30th November.

Ballymena born John met Rebekah in 1994 at the Ulster University at Coleraine where they were both studying for a diploma in teaching English as a foreign language.  John taught English in China and Hong Kong before entering the Church of Ireland Theological College.  He served his curacy in Derrylorran in the diocese of Armagh from 2002 until 2005, after which the young couple returned to teach in China.

John and Rebekah are looking forward to moving into the diocese and working with the people in Bright, Ballee, Killough and Rathmullan, and also those in the wider community.  The Dean of Down, the Very Revd Henry Hull, commented that John and Rebekah's experiences of working at home and abroad would be of immense value to the church.
