Bishops' Appeal sends aid to Burma

It was announced at General Synod that the Bishops' Appeal had given €10,000 as an initial emergency donation for relief of those affected by the cyclone in Burma.  This is to be channelled via USPG Ireland, which has effective means of operations through the Anglican Church in Myanmar.

Bishops' Appeal is available to channel further earmarked contributions through this and other appropriate channels as we continue to investigate the best means to route funds in a situation where, as everybody knows, establishing effective links within the country has been extremely difficult.

Cyclone Nargis hit Burma on 2nd May.  The country is currently holding three days of national mourning for the victims, of which 78,000 are confirmed dead and over 55,000 are still missing.
