St Columba’s raise £6,700 for Bòthar

Bòthar, the Third World development agency, has recently been given £6,700 by St Columba's Knock.  The money was raised throughout Lent by various fundraising activities which ranged from a Wine Tasting evening, to a Paint Demonstration and Rumble Art Exhibition and Sale, to ‘Buskers, Bubbly and Bites'.

Bishop Edward Darling, who is one of the Patrons of Bòthar, came to St Columba's at the end of April to receive the cheque.  Bòthar will use the money raised to send 32 goats to families in developing countries.

The charity provides poverty-stricken families with the means to solve their problems permanently.  For example, in giving a family a farm animal, and providing training and veterinary support, a family immediately has a crucial source of food.  They can also sell any surplus milk and begin breeding programmes. In doing this they learn skills which enable them to cope when times are difficult.

The Rector of St Columba's, the Revd John Auchmuty, paid tribute to the parishioners and members of the local community for supporting the fundraising during Lent.  He said that not only had their financial giving and prayers supported Bòthar but they had also experienced great fellowship together at the fundraising events and this was of immense benefit to the life and ministry of St Columba's.
