COUNTDOWN TO THE BISHOP’S BIBLE WEEK

In just a few hours, tonight at 8pm, the second annual Bishop’s Bible week will begin. This year’s event is being held at Willowfield Parish Church in East Belfast and Bishop Harold feels that this is the ideal time – at the end of the holiday season, before the schools go back and a new year of church activities begin across the Diocese – to focus on the Word of God. Bishop Derek Eaton, the former Bishop of Nelson in New Zealand, who is currently Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa, is the speaker at the four night event.

Bishop Derek and his wife, Alice, had previously spent several years working as mission partners in North Africa and Egypt. The theme of this year’s Bible Week is ‘Keeping the Faith in Hard Times’ has never been more relevant. Bishop Derek will speak each evening on 1 and 2 Timothy, looking at the challenges to the local church, challenges to the men and women of God, challenges to keep going and challenges for the ‘last days’.

He says “Living the Christian life is not always that easy in today’s world. The attitude of society around us can range from boredom about the things of God to incredulity that we could believe, through to hostility. In this series of Bible teachings from 1 and 2 Timothy, we will find a great deal of encouragement and helpful instructions for each of us as we endeavour to live out our faith in the real world.”

The Bishop’s Bible week is at 8pm each night from Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th August.
