A Challenge for the 'Last Days'

The theme taken by Bishop Derek Eaton for the final night of the second annual Bishop's Bible Week was ‘A Challenge for the Last Days' based on 2 Timothy 3:1-17. Bishop Derek explained the character of the ‘last days' as being marked by distressing times - misdirected love, family breakdown, empty religion and open minded tolerance. He stated that there is a call to be different, consistent with Scripture, but that this would be characterised by persecution for following Jesus. This, he stated could be overcome with help from the Holy Spirit and The Scriptures.

Music was led by the Praise Group from St Saviour's, Dollingstown and hymns by John Little on the Willowfield Organ. Neil Brittain from UTV Live Sport read the lesson and interviewed Michael Paterson, a former RUC Officer who sustained severe injuries, including the loss of both of his arms following a rocket attack on his vehicle in the early 1980's. Michael has since used his experiences to help others in ‘hard times' and explained how he felt God had used his situation for the better.
