Core Skills

Training for developing and extending key skills for children's ministry

To address the need for further training for children's ministry leaders within our churches, a course entitled "Core Skills" is being delivered in St Mark's Church, Newtownards under the leadership of their youth & family co-ordinator, Stephen Doherty; the Youth Pastor from Regent Street Methodist Church, Laura Ewing; and Revd Kevin Graham, Ards Area Dean.

Around 25 children's leaders from St Mark's, Regent Street Methodist, and parishes across the Ards Deanery have confirmed their places on this course which will run on the second Tuesday of each month in St Mark's.

The concept behind "Core Skills" is to develop and extend the knowledge base and experience of children's leaders empowering and encouraging them as pivotal roles within our churches.

Over the coming months, we will cover such topics as child development; leadership skills; programme planning; children and the community; pastoral awareness and spirituality and the Bible.

Most importantly, "Core Skills" is Biblically based and places our Christian values directly beside the skills required to deliver a higher standard of Children's ministry.
