Founder of Fold Housing Association Dies

The founder and former Chief Executive of the Fold Housing Association, Mrs Moyra Mitchell OBE has died. Mrs Mitchell founded the Association, the first and one of the leading providers of sheltered housing services delivered through an independent living model, in 1976.

Her first task was to form a Board of Management. This Board provided Fold voluntarily with a wealth of professional expertise which enabled Fold to be the successful organisation that it is today. Currently, some 4200 residents and tenants live in sheltered accomodation, family housing and specialist care schemes provided by Fold across Northern Ireland.

Mrs Mitchell was married to the Revd Canon George Mitchell, former Rector of St Comgall's Parish, Bangor who retired in 1988. She was heavily involved in the Mothers' Union, both with young families and as enroling member of the large Bangor branch for a number of years. Mrs Mitchell was 84 and received one of the awards of collectable coins when the Queen distributed Maundy Money in St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh on 20th March this year.

The funeral service took place on Tuesday 23rd December at 11.30am in St Comgall's Parish Church, located between Hamilton Road and Castle Street where they meet at the junction with Main Street in Bangor town centre.
