Dioceses called to consider liturgical space

A sub-committee of the Liturgical Advisory Committee has produced a green paper on the subject of Liturgical Space which was presented to and adopted by the General Synod in May.

All dioceses are asked to consider the implications of this paper during the following year and to send their views and findings to the Hon Secretary, the Revd Gerald Field, St Catherine's Rectory, Church Avenue, Tullamore, Co Offaly, Email: honsec.lac@iol.ie.

Following the recent General Synod, the Revd Canon Ricky Rountree said, ‘It is now five years since the publication of the Book of Common Prayer (2004). The positive reaction of the General Synod to this green paper indicates that it is now the right time to think critically about how we use the liturgical space in our churches. It is also quite apparent that clear guidelines about what are appropriate adaptations of existing buildings and what principals should be set for new places of worship would be very helpful to those who are seeking to bring new life into their place of worship and their handling of the liturgy.'
