Monday at the Bible Week

The 2009 Bishop's Bible Week got off to a great start with Archbishop Ben Kwashi delivering a powerful message to a full hall at the Jethro Centre, Lurgan.

Bishop Harold Miller gave a warm welcome to Ben and his wife Gloria, remarking that they had met at the Albany Convention in New York State the previous year. "When I heard Ben preach," said Bishop Harold, "I knew I had found my next speaker for the Bible Week." The Bishop also welcomed CLLR Dr John Kyle, deputy leader of the Progressive Unionist Party, who gave the reading.

We were not to be disappointed by this year's preacher. Bishop Ben spoke on the first seven verses of the Letter of Jude, reminding us that as God's people we are 'Called, loved and kept by him'. He continued on with many personal anecdotes and a lot of humour to assert that contending for the faith begins at home. We must each start with a committment to genuine Christan living and personal holiness.

Earlier in the evening Bishop Harold hosted some of the younger members of both General and Diocesan Synod for an evening meal and a chance to meet Ben and Gloria. Bishop Ben shared some of his experiences as a young man and we took the opportunity to pray for him and Gloria as they began to minister among us.

The Bible Week continues until Thursday evening and we hope that many will come to worship and hear what God has to say through this gifted and passionate communicator.
