Welcome to the Tall Ships

Belfast will be awash with colour this weekend, as the Tall Ships return after 18 years.  What a changed city and docklands they will see.  In 1991, they arrived in a city recovering from the trauma of bombing and devastation – a drab, grey docklands awaited them.  Having said that, they were an encouraging sign of our recognition as a city of the wider world.

2009 sees a new vista – the Odyssey, the newly developing Titanic Quarter – we are proud to welcome the Tall Ships to Belfast, and to celebrate with them a city moving into a new future of hope.

2009 will also see the Diocese of Down & Dromore developing ‘church’ in the new Titanic Quarter.  The Tall Ships are a harbinger of this important enterprise, and a reminder of the importance of the docklands, now as ever, for the City of Belfast
