Holywood parishioner tells an epic tale in dance

A Holywood parishioner has turned her epic dance journey into a one-woman show and forthcoming book.

In March 2008, Anthea McWilliams set out to dance all the way from Malin Head in Co. Donegal to Mizen Head in Co. Cork, a total of some 500 kms over 12 weeks.

The longest performance of her life, the dance expedition was executed in the name of art and to mark Anthea's 50th birthday, as well as 20 years of dance practice in Northern Ireland.

Anthea is originally from Lisburn and after school she married and left the Province for England in 1979. She returned to Belfast in 1988 with her honours degree in Performance Arts, determined to develop her freelance contemporary dance practice locally and to raise her two daughters. Fast forward to twenty years later, her stride has lengthened, and oddly enough so has her vigour. She is also now a granny, three times over. Anthea lives in Sydenham and has been attending St.Philip and St. James’ since 2002.

Anthea returned home safely, is now performing her own show of the epic journey and is writing the book of the same title 'Born to Prance' (supported by Arts Council NI).

The show will be performed at the Holywood Parish Centre on Friday 19th March.
