An Easter Vestry reminder

In line with the Constitution of the Church Of Ireland a General Vestry meeting (known as an Easter Vestry) has to be held not earlier than 20 days before and not later than 20 days after Easter day - but not during Holy Week.

The latest date on which it can be held this year is 24th April. Public notice has to be given of the meeting on the two Sundays preceding the Easter Vestry meeting by placing a notice on the main door of the church or church hall.

During February each rector and curate-in-charge was sent a number of forms which must be completed immediately after their parish's Easter vestry meeting. These should be returned to the Diocesan Office, with two copies of the parochial accounts,

no later than Tuesday 4th May 2010

. For the first time, parishes have been asked to supply email addresses for all their contacts as it is planned to send more communications electronically in future.

The

Diocesan Office

will be happy to answer any queries which parishes may have about conducting such Easter vestry meetings or about the returns which they have to submit.
