Mount Merrion's Marathon Fundraiser

Eighteen year old Joe Green will be running the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon on Monday 3rd May to raise £1000 for the Mount Merrion Parish Church Building Fund.

Joe's Dad is Rev Adrian Green, curate of the parish, which sits on the edge of the Cregagh Estate. It's an area of over 2,000 households situated in inner city east Belfast and perhaps best known as the home of the football legend George Best.

The congregation may be small in number but it is growing and "punches above its numerical weight" in terms of the impact it has on the estate through the various initiatives and programmes it runs.

"Our vision is underpinned by the desire to be a 'church in the community, for the community' and to love and to serve those living and working around us in every way we can," says Adrian. It is not our desire to compete with other churches and organisations already operating in the area, but rather to plug the gaps and compliment what is already happening. Where possible we want to work in conjunction with others to achieve a common goal.

"Our reason for fundraising is to enable us to develop our existing building so that we will have a facility that has the flexibility and comfort to accommodate the ever changing needs of the local community and help us realise the full potential of all that we would like to achieve on the Cregagh Estate."
