World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel

Parishes and congregations throughout Ireland are being encouraged by the World Council of Churches to support the World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel from 29th May - 4th June.

It's q week of advocacy and action for a just peace in Palestine and Israel organised by the WCC and those who share the hope of justice are invited to take peaceful actions, together, to create a common international public witness.

On Sunday 30 May the heads of the Churches in Jerusalem have invited Churches around the world to pray with them, the Jerusalem Prayer for Peace (available on this link), while a liturgy inspired by the visit in 2008 to the region by Irish Church leaders, including the Most Revd Alan Harper, Archbishop of Armagh, is also in circulation for worldwide use.

This service of reflections features the voices of young Palestinians and Israelis, and has been newly updated with their stories for use during World Week 2010, and contains powerful messages of the shared desire for peace, as well as inter-faith prayers including a cry from a Jerusalem-based rabbi, and a Gaza-based Muslim.

Parishes and congregations are urged to consider using these resources to maximize solidarity from the Irish Churches during this important focus week.
