Congratulations to June Butler!

Congratulations to our Diocesan Secretary, Mrs June Butler, who has been awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, "For services to Electoral Services in Northern Ireland."

June was the Assistant Chief Electoral Officer (Elections) for Northern Ireland before being appointed to the Dioceses of Down and Dromore and Connor last year. She is a parishioner of Saintfield Parish, Co Down.

A former pupil of Regent House Grammar School, Newtownards, June's career in the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland began in 1987 with a senior post. She was Deputy Electoral Officer and Deputy Returning Officer for South and East Antrim until 1994 when she moved to undertake those roles in the four Belfast constituencies.

In 2001 June was promoted to Assistant Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland and oversaw the introduction of individual registration for voting - the first area in the United Kingdom to do so.

In 2008 she was seconded to the Greater London Authority as project manager for electronic counting during the 2008 mayoral elections. Her last big election was the European Elections in June 2009.

June is married to Kevin and they have three daughters - Rebecca, 28, Kirsty, 25, and Hannah, 19.

In total, 61 people from Northern Ireland receive awards including three police officers who receive the Queen's Police Medal.
