Congratulations to Rector of Tullylish, Revd Arthur Young and Seapatrick Youth Pastor, Martin Montgomery, who have raised £3000 (and counting) in their week long charity cycle through the Diocese of Down and Dromore.

Martin and Arthur visited and photographed every church building in the diocese used for worship whilst raising money for the Northern Ireland Childrens' Hospice and Seapatrick's 'Save Our Spire' fund. They covered 430 miles and visited 119 churches, leaving Tullylish Parish on the morning of Sunday 1st August and arriving six and a half days later in Banbridge.

The going was often tough but Martin and Arthur were sustained by a sense of humour and spurred on by the interest and hospitality shown to them throughout the week.

"The whole thing was made easier by the support and encouragement of those who texted, emailed and come out to see and even feed us. It was great knowing that goodwill behind us," said Martin.

The cycle challenge formally ended on Sunday evening 8th August with a service of thanksgiving in Seapatrick at which Bishop Harold, parishioners and supporters welcomed back the pair and celebrated their tenacious fundraising efforts. The congregation was treated to some photos and amusing video diaries of their week on the road.

And what, for Martin and Arthur, were the highlights? Being applauded by spectators after stumbling into a real cycle road race; coffee and scones at the See House with Bishop Harold and Liz Miller; learning in a very tangible way what it means to persevere; enjoying the glory of God’s creation out on the road; being thankful for the witness of the church in all corners of Down and Dromore and, of course, finishing!
