Fiona Castle inspires and challenges in Kilkeel

Several hundred women gathered to spend a weekend in the company of well known author and speaker, Fiona Castle, who recently visited Christ Church Kilkeel. Fiona, pictured here with the Rector, Revd Ken McGrath, spoke on three separate occasions over the weekend.

Speaking on the topic "Reaching a 21st Century World" on Friday evening, she issued a challenge to Christians to be creative and compassionate in their engagement with people outside the walls of the church. On Saturday morning she shared her story at a special breakfast event and afterwards hosted a seminar in Christ Church Halls entitled 'Living Simply'. Drawing from her book of the same name, Fiona urged her listeners to ‘declutter’ their lives and concentrate on the things that really matter - people and relationships.

Fiona was married to the popular entertainer Roy Castle for 31 years before he died of lung cancer in 1994. Since then, she has been active in writing and campaigning and has a busy schedule travelling the country speaking about aspects of her Christian faith.

"Fiona was a wise and engaging speaker," said Lynda Quinn, part of the organising committee and Family Outreach Worker for the parish. “Her talks were peppered with anecdotes and lessons learned from personal experience and I think she struck a chord with all of us who had the privilege of hearing her.”
