New Bible in Ecuador

Exciting news from the Bible Society NI. After more than 20 years' hard work by the translation team, the Quichua Cañar Bible was dedicated in the twin cities of Tambo and Cañar. More than 20 local churches participated in the special celebration, along with many special guests.

Early the next morning, a huge parade started in Tambo, heading for Cañar some 10 km away. Made up of decorated cars and people dressed in traditional costumes, the parade stretched for almost 1 km. The dedication ceremony was attended by over 1,000 people, many wearing traditional costumes. Several church choirs sang and greetings were given.

Cornelio Midence, Acting Executive Secretary of the United Bible Societies in Ecuador, led the dedication prayer and gave the new Bible to church representatives and the young people of Cañar. As soon as the formalities ended, a long queue of people eager to buy their own copy began to form, a clear sign that this was a historic day indeed in the life of the Quichua Cañar community.

Praise God for this new Bible translation and the eagerness of the community in receiving it. Pray that many lives will be changed and hearts renewed through personal connection with Christ through His Word.

Remember in this 400th anniversary year of the publication of the King James version that more than 4,400 languages still wait for even one book of the Bible.
