Revd Craig Cooney is new Minister in Charge of CORE

The Revd Craig Cooney, curate-assistant of Shankill Parish in Lurgan (Diocese of Dromore), has been appointed new Minister-in-Charge of CORE at St Catherine's Church, Thomas Street, Dublin. His institution will take place in September.

Speaking of his appointment, Craig said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as Minister-in-Charge of CORE. CORE is a church that has had a great impact and influence throughout its short history and, under God, I have no doubt that it will continue to reach many people in Dublin city and further afield with the transforming power of Jesus. My wife Becky and I very much look forward to beginning our work alongside the faithful and committed members of this congregation. "The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr Michael Jackson, has welcomed the appointment, saying:

"I greatly look forward to working with Craig. The contribution that CORE can make to the broad range of ministry in inner city Dublin is considerable, not least at a time when economic and social circumstances are forcing us in the church to look out. We must engage adventurously in the name of Christ with those whose lives and hopes have been broken by the commercialisation of almost everything which lies at the heart of human existence and relationships. Craig’s passion for ministry with a challenge bodes well for the future life of CORE within the diocese."

The Rt Revd Harold Miller, Bishop of Down and Dromore, paid tribute to Craig, saying:

"Craig is just the right person to lead CORE church in Dublin into the next stage of its life and witness. He has had a wonderful ministry as cuirate in Shankill Parish Lurgan, and especially in building up 'Arise' in the Jethro Centre.

We will miss him greatly from the Diocese of Down and Dromore, and wish him and his wife Becky God's rich blessings as they prepare to move to Dublin in September.'
