Leadership Development at Carrowdore and Millisle

It has been said that any local church will stand or fall on the ability of its leaders to lead. Therefore it is good to see a number of initiatives now being adopted to assist the development of those who are in positions of leadership and responsibility.

Amongst them are some super resources, such as the Arrow Leadership programme and the Willow Creek Association's Global Leadership Summit (Bangor Elim 7th & 8th October).

One other method which is growing in its importance and significance is the one-to-one approach. One minister, the Revd Colin Davis (Carrowdore and Millisle) is one of those who is greatly benefitting from the expertise of Belfast based leadership development coach, Chris Hollies, of Leadership First. Colin says, "I recognise that there is plenty to learn about leadership. I am so grateful to Chris and the wisdom and expertise he brings to help me grow as a leader."

Chris and Rev Davis meet once a month for two to three hours and discuss various aspects of leadership in regards to Colin's ministry within Carrowdore and Millisle. As he says, “It is the fact that this is tailored to my context which makes this form of leadership development so valuable to me.”

Colin is also applying to be a part of the next Arrow Leadership programme, which will enhance his work with Chris, and he has already invited Chris to be his mentor in relation to the Arrow Leadership programme. This is a role that Chris Hollies has already fulfilled with the Revd Chris Bennett, a recent graduate of the Arrow Leadership programme, and as he says, “I think the development of leaders is paramount to the future of our local churches. I applaud any initiative that seeks therefore to equip those within leadership.”
