Meet our interns: Colin McConaghie

My name is Colin McConaghie, I am married to Gillian and we have three beautiful girls; the twins Madison and Siena aged 7 and our baby Ava who was born in March of this year. I have lived in the Lurgan area all my life where with my family I attended St John's Parish until the age of 17 when I moved to Shankill Parish.

Having left school following my 'A’ Levels I ended up working with Craigavon Borough Council for 12 years where I was involved in environmental education and running events.

Having made a commitment to Christ as a youngster during a mission at St John’s my faith grew during my years at Lurgan College through a very strong Scripture Union. During this time I first felt God’s call to ordained ministry but in the style of ‘Jonah’ I managed to run rather than listen to His voice.

I attempted to answer that call through Sunday School teaching and many happy years as a voluntary youth leader. However, I knew deep down God was calling me to ordination and eventually in 2007 I stopped running and entered the Fellowship of Vocation.

During my time in training and as ordination approaches I become more and more aware of my reliance on God in equipping me to serve him and his people. As followers of Christ I believe each one of us has a calling and I am truly humbled to have been called to serve as a Deacon and then Priest in His church.

I am excited as I prepare to begin my internship in Seagoe Parish, a time I know will offer me not only great blessing but invaluable experience for my future ministry. I pray that God will use me to share his word, serve his people and demonstrate his unfailing love in each community in which I am privileged to serve.
