New Archdeacon of Dromore announced

Congratulations to Canon Roderic West whom Bishop Harold has appointed as the new Archdeacon of Dromore. He will officially take up his role on October 1, upon the retirement of the present Archdeacon, The Ven John Scott.

Roderic, originally from Aghavea Parish, in the Diocese of Clogher, was educated at Portora Royal School in Enniskillen. He was ordained in 1986 and served his curacy with the Venerable William B Neill in Dromore Cathedral.

He was appointed Rector of the parishes of Carrowdore and Millisle in 1989 and served there for six years before being instituted as Rector of St John’s Parish, Moira in June 1995.

Roderic was Rural Dean of Shankill Deanery from 1997 – 2008 and has been a Canon of Dromore Cathedral since 2005. He was elected Dromore Clerical Honorary Secretary in 2008 and last year became the Diocesan Link Coordinator with Albany Diocese.

Roderic is married to Joan, a nurse, who shares with him in leadership and ministry in the parish. They have two daughters, Ruth and Claire. Ruth is the curate assistant in the Waterford Group of parishes and Claire is a teacher in Lisburn.

Roderic is passionate about mission in the local Church and in encouraging personal spiritual growth and development.

He enjoys walking, travelling and is rediscovering an interest in gardening.
