Training the next generation of preachers

Are you in your 20s or 30s and sense a call to preach? Are you on the other side of 39 and have a desire to see the younger generation take their place in the life of the church? If either applies, you will welcome an exciting initiative announced at the Bishop’s Bible Week

Diocesan Readers ‘2030’, is a vision and a plan to seek out and train the next generation of diocesan readers.

“One of my priorities in this period of my episcopal ministry,” says Bishop Harold, “is to discover, train, mentor and release young people of faith into ministry in its widest sense.

”I have tasked our Warden of Readers, Revd Willie Nixon, with discovering and training a band of young preachers and I encourage those of us in the diocese who are older to play their part in passing on the baton. We need the vigour, vision and passion of young people in the preaching ministry.”

The Vision for Diocesan Readership in Down & Dromore is to Call, Train & Empower Young Preachers For Teaching & Evangelism

  • To identify men and women in their 20’s and 30’s with a passion for the Scriptures and to see their understanding of Scripture deepened

  • To train and empower a new generation of preachers, with the goal of being recognised licensed Ministers of the Word within the Diocese

  • To gift the local Church with a contemporary resource for Mission and Ministry

Details to follow soon. In the meantime, listen to Willie share the vison at the Bible Week.
