Get set for the BBC experience

Representatives from Digital UK and the Switchover Help Scheme will be taking part in the first BBC Experience roadshow event at Lurgan Library on Tuesday 8th November.

Visitors will have the opportunity to get further information on the digital switchover and also get involved in newsreading, jingle making and a radio drama. There will also be an outside broadcast with BBC Radio Ulster’s Hugo Duncan and a wide range of interactive activities and displays. Free tickets are available from bbc.co.uk or call 0370 901 1227.

All Aboard! Help bus scheme starts tour of Northern Ireland

Next week, experts from the BBC–run Switchover Help Scheme will visit towns across Northern Ireland to offer older and disabled residents advice about the practical help they can receive to switch to digital TV.  The Switchover Help Scheme Bus will start its tour in Larne on Tuesday 8 November and will visit towns and villages across the country, culminating in a visit to Belfast on Thursday 17 November.  Full details can be found in the Diary section below.

Busted – a couple of myths

Here are a couple of important facts about the switchover. First, you don’t need to buy a new television to get ready – almost every television set can be converted using a digital (set–top) box or digital television recorder. For very old models without a SCART socket, you’ll need to ask your retailer for a digital box with an RF modulator, which connects to the aerial input.

Second, there is no such thing as a ‘digital’ TV aerial (there’s no such thing as an ‘analogue’ TV aerial either) – and provided your existing aerial is in good condition and receives clear analogue pictures now it should be fine to receive digital signals after switchover.
