Service from Down Cathedral on Radio 4

Radio 4 will broadcast a service from Down Cathedral on the morning of Remembrance Sunday, 13 November, at 8.10am.

Dean Henry Hull will lead and broadcaster and former rector in the diocese, Canon Noel Battye, will reflect on the tragedy of war through the words of scripture, hymns and the Irish War poets.

Also taking part are Hebe Sanford, Revd Dr Bert Tosh and Bill Christie, whose father, Jack, was one of the last survivors in Northern Ireland of the Battle of the Somme .

Although Down Cathedral is more usually associated with the burial place of St Patrick,

Downpatrick was for many years a garrison town and within the building are memorials going back to the time of the American War of Independence. One of the most poignant memorials is that to four sons of the same family who lost their lives in the Great War.

Tune in to this reflective and beautiful service as we remember the fallen of many conflicts on Remembrance Sunday.
