Children’s Resource Evenings a great success

The Down and Dromore Youth and Children’s Department has just completed 9 Children’s Leaders’ Resource Evenings throughout the Diocese.

The events were held in each of the 9 Area Deaneries and have been a great success with over 150 children’s workers, Sunday School teachers and Clergy attending in total.

Julie Currie the Children’s Officer, has been out and about on the road from Knock to Annalong, Carryduff to Dollingstown, Banbridge to Downpatrick, Ballyholme to Sydenham and Newtownards.

She says, “It has been fantastic meeting people who do the ‘hands on’ work of encouraging and equipping children in their faith. They have encouraged me so much and I hope they have gone back to their parishes with enthusiasm and lots of fresh ideas.”

The evenings were overflowing with a great mix of chat, resources and the ubiquitous cup of tea! The attendance of leaders and clergy was much appreciated and particularly those parishes and Area Deans that hosted.

The participants appreciated Julie’s passion, enthusiasm and her attention to detail. Here are some of the comments made at the events:

“It was great to engage in conversation about ideas with other children’s workers.”

“I couldn’t get over the wealth of resources available.”

“Everything I’m going to look up everything . . . I didn’t know there was so much!”

“It’s great, knowing that Julie is out there and we can call on her.”

“All was very informative – the knowledge and approach was truly professional and the Christian ethos inspirational.”

It is hoped this will be the start of an annual event for those working in Children’s Ministry.
