Diocese sponsors gifts to prisoners

Revd Willie Nixon, rector of Killaney and Carryduff and Church of Ireland Chaplain to Hydebank, recently visited the prison bearing gifts. On Sunday 18 December every prisoner in Hydebank recieved a selection box with the label, ‘From the Chaplaincy Team at Hydebank, Sponsored by the Diocese of Down & Dromore’.

Five parishes donated 370 selection boxes after Willie made an appeal during Prisons Week.

“The prison chaplains approached the governors, asking if we could give every prisoner a gift this Christmas,” he explains. “They agreed that we could give sweets and I’m thrilled with the response, particularly from the Lecale Group of Churches, who were especially generous.”

“I would also like to thank Hillsborough, Knocknagoney, Bangor Abbey and my own parish for their donations.”
