Modern Russian Bible proves successful

It is almost 150 years since Russia’s most widely–used Bible translation, the Synodal Bible, was published. Its language has become increasingly outdated. Now the Bible Society in Russia is able to offer a modern alternative: the Contemporary Russian Version (CRV).

Since its launch in June, sales of the CRV have surpassed all expectations. The new translation is a culmination of a project lasting over 15 years. It is designed to make the Bible’s message clear and easy to understand for today’s readers. The response has been extremely positive: within just a few days of the launch, half of the first print run of 15,000 copies had been sold and the Bible Society is now selling the third print run, with a further two planned over the next three months.

The CRV is also being made available in digital format as an Apple app.  Praise God that the CRV means that Russian speakers now have access to God’s Word in a modern language that is easily understood. Pray that many will find renewed interest in the Bible through this translation, and that many hearts will be touched and lives changed.
