Confirmation Weekend 2012
The 11th Down and Dromore Confirmation residential recently took place when 130 young people and leaders gathered in Castlewellan over St. Patrick’s weekend.
The participants, from 12 parishes, spent the weekend looking at what it means to follow Jesus and how to pray and study the Bible. The speakers were Laura and Michael Wright from Shankill Parish, supported by Dave and Michael who led worship, the diocesan youth working group and all the facilitators who led young people in small groups.
There were also plenty of activities to keep people occupied such as laser quest, cage football, archery, laser clay pigeon shooting, crafts and a maze to get lost in! The evenings involved hunting leaders, the boys’ versus girls’ challenge (the girls won!) and the traditional disco.
And finally, as if all that wasn’t enough, we extended the ‘Following’ theme on St. Patrick’s Day by joining the pilgrimage from Saul to Down Cathedral.
Feedback from the weekend has been overwhelmingly positive and a big thank you needs to be said for all the leaders who brought their young people. If they are keen to come back the dates for 2013 are already booked!
