Passion Week events at The Good Book Shop
The Good Book Shop, Donegall Street, Belfast, is holding a couple of events during Passion Week at the end of March.
Inspired by the success of KJV@4:00, on Tuesday March 27 the shop will launch an informal book club to which authors will be invited to come and read extracts from their books.
On the last Tuesday of each month, people will get the chance to come and hear them and to ask questions, giving the listener an opportunity to gain an insight into the author’s intentions when writing.
The first reading will take place at 12 noon in the coffee area of the bookshop. The guest reader will be the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, who will read an extract from his latest book ‘Shadows on the Journey.’ Everyone is welcome.
Two days later on Thursday March 29, the shop will host a service of sung Compline at 8:45pm. This year marks the 350th anniversary of the English Book of Common Prayer (BCP).
Compline is traditionally the final church service of the day. In the Anglican tradition, Compline was originally merged with Vespers to form Evening Prayer in the BCP of 1662. The Church of England’s proposed Prayer Book of 1928 restored a form of Compline to Anglican worship.
A small choir of male voices will be in the shop to sing the service, which will last no longer than 30 minutes. Anyone interested in attending should email Richard Ryan at
