Team Building, Titanic style

A group from Church House took some time away from their desks on 1 March and headed to Belfast’s Titanic Quarter for some team building and fact finding. It was a chance to have a guided tour of Belfast’s newest tourist area, courtesy of Chaplain, Chris Bennett, and to hear about the latest developments at ‘The Dock’.

The day began in ‘The Meanwhile Cafe,’ a great space looking out over the Abercorn Basin, which The Dock is free to use until a paying tenant comes along. Chris and his team began the transformation of the space in time to welcome Eamonn Holmes last weekend, who was filming some footage for ‘Songs of Praise’. The programme will be broadcast on 11 March, just after The Dock Cafe officially opens on Thursday 8 March at 3.00pm.

Chris enthused about the developing Titanic Quarter and related the history of Titanic, her sister ships and the people and places in Belfast who featured in her story. We walked the familiar route, taking in The Nomadic, passenger tender to the White Star Line, Titanic Belfast and The Harland and Wolff Drawing Office.

The group enjoyed a soup and sandwiches lunch in The Pump House, before playing some team building games led by Andrew Brannigan (about to turn 40!). We finished the tour and the day at the famous Thompson Graving Dock, where Titanic once sat whilst work was done on her hull and propellors.
