Fields of Life chosen as a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Charity

On Monday 4th June Fields of Life will climb to the top of Slieve Dionard to light a Beacon at 22.25 hours as part of the celebrations for the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

The charity has been chosen to lead the celebrations along with 3 other charities across the UK on the 4th June. Fields of Life will light a beacon at the summit of Slieve Donard at 10.25pm on the 4th June, while 3 other charities will simultaneously light beacons at the summits of Ben Nevis, Scotland (Help for Heroes); Snowdon, Wales (Walking with the Wounded); and Scafell Pike, England (Cancer Research UK). Moments later at Buckingham Palace, The Queen will light the National Beacon at 10.30pm.

They are looking for 500 volunteers to get involved in this historic event and climb  with them on the evening of the 4th. They are asking each climber to try and raise £150 in sponsorship to contribute towards the building of a Primary school in Northern Uganda. This is an area that has torn apart by a war due to the activities of a rebel group called the Lords Resistance Army (LRA). The conflict has led to the displacement of nearly 2 million people and resulted in the abduction of more than 60,000 children.  It is our objective to provide basic primary level education to orphans and vulnerable children in the area, creating  an environment where they are loved, respected and nurtured to fulfil their potential.

If you don’t fancy the climb there are other ways to support. Visit the Fields of Life website and contact Helen Keown at the Fields of Life office on 02838 390395 or email helen@fieldsoflife.com.
