Titanic Requiem Saturday 14 April

The men, women and children who perished in the Titanic maritime disaster will be remembered with a musical performance in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, on April 14.

A century after the vessel hit an iceberg, the loss of more than 1,500 lives will be remembered at through the ‘Requiem for the Lost Souls of the Titanic’ by Belfast–born composer Philip Hammond.

Mr Hammond has lived most of his life in the shadow of the Belfast shipyard where the Titanic and its sister ships were built in the heyday of the industry during the early years of the twentieth century.

He has spent the last three years putting the Titanic requiem together, developing six choral movements with five musical meditations. The requiem is set to words from the original Latin Requiem Mass.

The Dean of St Anne’s, the Rev John Mann, said that he was delighted that St Anne’s Cathedral was the chosen venue for such a prestigious event.
