Day of Prayer to build upon ‘stirrings of faith’
Canon Brother David Jardine, one of the organisers of the Day of Prayer for Renewal of Faith in St. Anne’s Cathedral has said that he sees, “stirrings of faith” in our land.
“This country very much needs a renewal of faith, to heal hurts, to bring reconciliation, to offer hope for the future,” he says. “I believe that at the moment something is stirring. I can never before remember so many public calls for prayer as when that Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch. A week later an Aston Villa player was diagnosed with a serious illness and the headline on the sports page of the Belfast Telegraph was ‘Pray for Petrov’. Politicians who hold very divergent points of view are working together in a quite remarkable way. There has been a lot of publicity about the number of Christian players in the Ulster Rugby team.
“I see these and other stirrings of faith all over the place. We will be coming together on June 23 to pray that God will build on what is already happening.”
The event (10.30 am – 3.30 pm) is part of a cycle of seven years of prayer organised by Divine Healing Ministries. June 23 will mark the beginning of the fourth year.
There will be a wide range of contributors, including Bishop Donal McKeown, Bishop Ken Good, Dr. Heather Morris from Edgehill Theological College and Rev. Charles McMullan from West Church, Bangor. During each half–hour session there will be good periods of silence to allow people to pray quietly.
There will be hospitality throughout the day in the Cathedral Hall and people are free to come and go as they please.
