First mission team heads to Uganda

In the early hours of 28 June, a team of 21 young men and leaders from Christ Church Kilkeel Boys’ Brigade set out on their journey to Nakasongola, Uganda.

They are the first of several groups from the diocese heading out on mission trips this summer.

Under the leadership of BB Captain and Hopebuilders founder, David Charleton, the BB boys have planned a whole programme of activities and events to teach and encourage the young people and children of the area. They will be organising sports (including their very own Euro Football Tournament), helping out on the school farm, leading children’s Bible talks, teaching a Christianity Explored Course and working at a nearby children’s village. They return on 10 July.

On the same day, a group of 20 from Belvoir Parish will travel to ‘The Promised Land’ Orphanage just outside the city of Salem, in Tamil Nadu, India. The team will be doing a general medical screening of 1200 orphans and as much interior decorating as possible. They will paint murals, play games with the children, meet the leper colony and visit several churches and schools where they will be doing talks, dramas and songs. The orphanage is part of the Indian Christian Mission Centre’s complex of schools, teacher training college, missionary school, nursing college and a new hospital. The team returns on 21 July.

Four young people from Saintfield parish will be joining Exodus teams this summer, serving in Spain, Ireland and Poland whilst a large group of young people from Willowfield Church are travelling to serve in Uganda.

This year, for the first time in the history of St. Columba’s Parish Church, Knock, a team of 10 parishioners will travel to Zambia, leaving on 27 July and returning on 11 August. Read more here.

On 31 July the JIMS Project in Kilkeel is taking a team of 10 young people to the town of Cluj in the north of Romania for 12 days. They will be running a children’s club, delivering essentials to underprivileged homes and doing some hard work! They have linked up with Exodus and will be involved with their partners whilst over in Romania.

Just a taste of the missionary endeavours of Down and Dromore in 2012. Please pray for these teams and others you may know of.
